A description of the Person of Jesus Christ

A description of the Person of Jesus Christ
"As it was found in an ancient manuscript, which was sent by Publius Lentulus, President of Judea, to the Senate of Rome.
"There lives at this time in Judea a man of singular character, whose name is Jesus Christ. The barbarians esteem him a prophet, but his followers adore him as the immediate offspring of the Immortal God. He is endowed with such unparalleled virtue as to call back the dead from their graves, and to heal every kind of disease with a word or touch. His person is tall and elegantly shaped; his aspect amiable and reverend; his hair flows in beautiful shades, which no united color can match, falling into graceful curls below his ears, agreeably couching on his shoulders, and parting on the crown of his head, like the head dress of the sect of the Nazorites. His forehead is smooth, and his cheeks without a spot, save that of a lovely red. His nose and mouth are framed with exquisite symmetry; his beard is thick, and suitable to the hair of his head, reaching a little below his chin, and parted in the middle like a fork; his eyes are bright, clear and serene. He rebukes with majesty, counsels with mildness, and invites with the most tender and persuasive language. His whole address, whether in word or deed, being elegant, brave, and strictly characteristic of so exalted a being. No man has ever seen him laugh, but the whole world has frequently beheld him weep; and so persuasive are his tears, that the multitude cannot withhold their's from joining in sympathy with him. He is very modest, temperate and wise. In short, whatever this phenomenon may be in the end, he seems at present a man of excellent beauty and divine perfections; every way surpassing the children of men. "...Ground of the Soul..."

"In the most intimate, hidden and innermost ground of the soul, God is always essentially, actively, and substantially present. Here the soul possesses everything by grace which God possesses by nature." - Johannes Tauler (1300 - 1361)

Silence

Abba Ammonas - Ora pro nobis
Behold my beloved, I have shown you the power of silence, how thoroughly it heals and how pleasing it is to God. Wherefore I have written to you to show yourselves strong in this work you have undertaken, so that you may know that it is by silence that the saints grew, that it was because of silence that the power of God dwelt in them, because of silence that the mysteries of God were known to them. - Abba Ammonas

...Filled with Meaning

"The obvious fact is that everyone suffers and that almost all go through periods of deep suffering and darkness. Some, inexplicably, seem to experience more suffering than others. If you are in darkness, recognize the fact that you have plenty of company. If you have failed to admit the universal human experience of suffering, then this recognition should make you more compassionate and sensitive to people’s hidden pain in the future. By rejecting the unwarranted illusion that ‘everyone is doing well but me’, you will become a far more open human being, sensitive to the sufferings of others, and willing to listen and help. What is far more important, you will not look on this Christian way of acting as a chore or burden. Even if things are going well, compassionate concern for others will constantly remind you that life is not always sunshine. In a wounded world marked by the mystery of the original fall of the human race, life cannot always be beautiful, but it can be filled with meaning.” -  Fr. Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R.  From his book, “Arise from Darkness” (Ignatius Press)
